The 1887 Eldridge Street Synagogue, a National Historic Landmark is located on New York City's Lower East Side. It is now a working Orthodox Synagogue as well as a museum. It took a year to build and 18 years to renovate. It is definitely worth a visit. For more info, http://www.eldridgestreet.org/history/history
